I was 7 years old and was busy making my first banana cake. I added the eggs, sugar, milk, butter, mashed bananas and mixed all up. As I was outside baking, I needed to add the final ingredient, the thing that would make it the most amazing banana cake in the history of banana cakes…sand! The lovely thing about my Nan and Grandad is that they went along with it all. They let me make my first banana cake, they let me feed it to kids down the street and never once did they question or tell me that what I was doing was wrong. Thankfully, they did teach me that flour was better than sand in a banana cake.
